About the work

Seen from above, a crowd of small dark figures with pale heads streams across a worn ground of gold, grey and brown. The surface is scratched and layered, with darker smudges where the bodies press together, and two pale circles glow faintly in the lower half.

In Stolen Time the body is always part of a larger mass, and here the crowd thins as it reaches the top of the canvas. It was shown at the London Art Biennale in 2021.

About the series

“The pictorial elements organize themselves into almost corporeal morphologies, capable of suggesting a collective presence and engaging the viewer not as an external observer, but as a possible part of a system in perpetual motion.”

Domenico de Chirico, curator, catalogue essay, 2026
