About the work
Itaca is Spanish for Ithaca. Vertical streaks in shades of blue run down almost the whole height of the canvas, dragged and scraped so that darker layers show through lighter ones. At the bottom, a single wave rises and breaks in white spray.
The painting belongs to Agua, where water takes many forms. Here it appears twice, in the long streaks above and in the breaking wave below.
