About the work
A dark blue sea fills most of the canvas, its surface broken into hundreds of small white crests. Near the horizon sits a low island in green and ochre, its peak slightly left of centre. The sky above is a pale band of white and soft blue, laid in broken patches.
Most paintings in Agua show water with no fixed form. Here the open sea leads the eye to a single point of land.
