About the work
Itsaso is Basque for "sea". On a tall, narrow canvas, a single large form hangs in deep indigo and violet. Its surface is a fine mesh of white and pale blue, folded and twisted like netting or cloth. At the top, a band of green light reads as the surface of the water.
Crossing Water treats water as a force of transformation, and looks at the traces and debris it carries.
About the series
“We set ourselves the challenge of working with the concept of water, which was very different from what I had been doing. It had no fixed structure, and this forced me to experiment with things I had previously kept more contained, particularly colour itself.”
