About the work
Ausencias is Spanish for "absences". Dark figures, soft-edged as if seen through smoke, stand and walk across a pale grey field. Some are upright and solid, others break apart along the top edge. Scratched lines, loose grids and small flecks of yellow and red cut through the surface, and a faint spiral turns in the lower right.
In Luces y Sombras the light opens space around the crowd. Here the pale ground takes up more room than the figures.
