About the work
Playa is Spanish for “beach”. A band of blue water runs along the top edge, above a wide stretch of sand in beige and soft pink. Figures, seen from above, crowd the lower half in dark clusters and thin out towards the shoreline. A large translucent circle floats near the upper left.
Poemas de Agua links the crowd paintings to the water series. Here the two meet directly, with the crowd spreading like a tide below the sea.
