About the work
Las Flores del Raval means “the flowers of the Raval”, the Barcelona neighbourhood where Ima Montoya has her studio. Layers of brick red and pink build a thick, crusted surface. White and grey-green flakes gather towards the centre and scatter outward, with darker patches and a few small raised shapes near the edges.
The Secret Life of Plants is her newest series, where botanical growth spreads across the canvas in deep reds and pinks.
About the series
“I am interested in finding structures within things that initially appear to have none, structures that can give me a starting point from which to paint, experiment and continue.”
